Working at the Concho Valley Regional Food Bank

By: Maria David

I have learned a lot while I have been going to the San Angelo Clubhouse. I like learning new stuff. I have learned how to handle money and use the cash register. I have also learned to stock snacks in the Clubhouse Café. Working with Sam, the Café unit staff, I help make shopping lists and go shopping on Tuesday. That experience helped me get a job at the Concho Valley Regional Food Bank sorting and food cans, and boxes of cereal, JELL-O, and noodles into labeled boxes. We sort boxes and boxes of food. I use a label maker to make a date label and put it next to the bar code on the can or boxes, and sort them into a larger box. I like the people there, and I think it is good experience, and will help me get a different job in the future.

Editor’s note: Maria’s job is a part of the San Angelo Clubhouse’s Transitional Employment program. This 6-month contract is a partnership between the Clubhouse and an employer, in this case, the Concho Valley Food Bank. Transitional Employment helps people who are new or returning to the workforce. If you are interested in partnering with the San Angelo Clubhouse in their transitional employment program, please call Brent at the Clubhouse: 325-617-7884.
