We Are Not Alone
The heart and soul of the Clubhouse movement is found in our relationships with each other. Although we are not able to be together right now, it is important to remember that we are not alone.
Seventy years ago, when original Clubhouse founders met weekly on the steps of the New York City Public Library, they came together to share resources, find new friends, and work toward recovery from mental illness. As they gathered each week and introduced new members, they would remind each other, “We are not alone!”
While the doors to the San Angelo Clubhouse community is still alive and well, very much open, and working to keep everyone engaged and connected. We have video calls twice daily, socials at least once a week, and deliver meals weekly to our active members who are living along. We are continuing to focus on the health and wellness of our members, as well as assistance with employment, looking for education opportunities, community outreach, and other important aspects of the Clubhouse. Our staff is still hard at work every day, and we cannot wait to show off surprises we have in each unit when our doors reopen. We are in uncharted territory. We encourage Clubhouse members and staff to stay connected with their Clubhouse community, locally, regionally, and internationally. We may be apart physically for not, but remember the words of the Clubhouse founds more than 70 years ago, when they told each other, “We are not alone!” We will get through this, together.
